and Bong Joon-ho's recycled future

Mickey 17 shares DNA with both Starship Troopers and The Nutty Professor, but is held back from greatness by its refusal to delve into the extremes that those films presented. Instead, the film opts for a mashup of a few entirely different movies, genres, and tones at once (not new to a master juggler like director Bong Joon-ho) that result in a befuddling mix, a film that surely doesn’t succeed at its aims but is far too interesting to be deemed a failure.
