I can certainly see the incel in Bear. Those traits grew more as he nudged boundaries ( a key moment being when he finally understood that Nikki was under a spell and the film cut to them in bed. He didn't care if "no" existed ). I also agree about the lighting: it was ok for her scenes when she was staring at Bear in the dark but other moments, where the performance relied on facial expressions and posture, were off.

All that said, I really enjoyed it.

So the reading here is the character, Bear, "friendzoned" a girl at his work but is also somehow a stereotyped "incel"? That wasn't really the dynamic I got. At most the Bear character feels a bit of a pejorative "nice guy" and awkward and it seems pretty obvious that Nikki didn't friendzone him; he ends up friendzoning himself through cowardice right before the pivotal "wish" moment. Though, I agree about the pill bottle thing, but like, it was 5 seconds of the entire runtime.

The word incel has had some real definitional creep. Its definitions seem to include guys who struggle to approach women either because of insecurity or an immutable trait, guys who buy into the hypergamy myth, and generally lonely misogynists. Bear is just the insecure type
